Inadvertently or not, Sen. McCain did the Men's Rights movement a great service when he asked Sarah Palin to be his running mate.
Not because she's an outspoken arbiter of men's rights (to my knowledge, she's never addressed any of the issues pertinent).
It's not because she's a woman, and we can then point and say "Look, a woman is VP, time to let up!"
It's not because of anything the Republicans have done at all. It's what the Democrats did. It's what the feminists did. And it's what the mainstream media did.
And I hope to God they keep doing it.
There has been more open criticism of feminism in the last few days than there has for the last few decades! There have been accusations of hypocrisy levelled at NOW, openly, by fairly mainstream figures...politicians even!
The patent absurdity of the "progressive left"'s reaction, coupled with the aplomb Palin addressed the RNC with (yes, I watched the whole speech...on purpose...AND I enjoyed it), makes mincemeat of feminist and Progressive credibility.
People are even starting to point out the hypocrisy of other feminist "sacred cows", ...to show pattern, mind.
The mere fact that Palin LIVES the feminist talk, right down to making her own choices on conception and pregnancy, and yet feminists everywhere are screeching for her blood mere HOURS after the announcement...well, that right there is enough evidence to hang the whole lot of them.
This is one nauseatingly long American election I'm actually going to enjoy being forced to follow. :)
The whole absurdity of the feminist response is that they are always screeching about how women should be more equally represented in government, parliaments and the like.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet when someone decides to promote a woman to a higher position, suddenly they start screeching "no, she's not the right kind of woman! She doesn't quite swallow every piece of bullshit we spout!"
The point is that if you are going to argue that different groups in society should be equally represented, you have to accept that this will have to include members of those groups who don't necessarily agree with everything else you believe in. Intellectual diversity as well as demographic diversity.
If the feminists are going to reject women candidates (without a real good reason, such as the individual being a complete nutter) then they can't whine and bitch about women not being equally represented with men.
To some extent, that is the price you pay for going along with this kind of mindless group spoils system. You have to support someone who is one of the tribe, even if you don't really agree with them. They can't have it both ways.
From what I've seen of Palin, I am not all that impressed with her. But she doesn't seem too bad, and would be a better choice than Uncle VAWA Biden.
And I do think that, all things being equal, there may be some merit in promoting women simply to end the feminist bitching about the "glass ceiling". The more you shatter "glass ceilings", the more you force men to confront their powerlessness.
I don't know...I find Sarah palin appealing. But then, I'm Canadian.
